Sophie Galindo, 90 long time Lamesa, Texas resident passed away on January 9, 2012 in College Station while visiting family. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday January 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church with Father Edwardo Teo officiating. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Rosary will be said on Thursday and Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel.
Sophie was born on August 20, 1921 in Monterey, Mexico and later proudly became a United States citizen. Her husband, Jesus R. Galindo, preceded Sophie in death in 1983. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Tillie and Lupe Ortiz, Sr. of Lamesa, TX; daughter and son-in-law Polly and Ruben Vargas, Sr. of Midland, TX; daughter and son-in-law Kandi and Jim Bryan of College Station, TX; grandchildren, Cynthia, Lupe Jr., Jesse, Sandra, Michael, Victor, Ruben, Jr. and Wayde; 16 great-grandchildrenand 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Sophie was the eldest of nine children. She is preceded in death by parents Ignacio and Josepha Gonzales, sisters Connie Rodriguez and Esperanza Hernandez. She is survived by brothers, Ignacio Gonzales of Lamesa, Frank Gonzales of Lamesa, and Felix Gonzales of Lamesa; sisters Cleo Bailon of Phoenix, AZ, Gloria Barron of Lamesa and Mary Menjares of Lamesa.
Sophie was a loving, caring and giving person and for many years she and Jesse were foster parents to more than 30 children. She was a member of the Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Lamesa.
