Clifford Smith

January 12, 1931 - January 2, 2013

Funeral services for Clifford Burns Smith, 81, of Lamesa will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Clifton Igo officiating and Woody McArthur assisting. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.

Clifford passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in Lubbock. He was born on January 12, 1931, in Kent County, TX to Milton and Winnie (Burns) Smith. He married Gay Nell Bass on February 13, 1954, in Lubbock. Clifford was a Corporal in the United States Army and served in Korea. He drove a cattle truck for Mark Turberfield, worked on the Bateman Ranch in Guthrie, TX and also day worked at the 6666 Ranch. He then worked as a crude oil truck driver for Tesero and Enron. After his retirement from the trucking industry, Clifford ran cattle on his land in Borden County that he named "The Place".

He is survived by his wife, Gay Nell; their children, Billy Smith and wife Carolyn of Snyder, TX and Terry Clement and husband Kelley of Lamesa, TX; sisters, Faye Hitt of Waco and Jo Ann Zantail of Aurora, CO; sister-in-law, Reba Smith of Alamogordo, NM; grandchildren, Bruce Marmolejo and Chasity Marmolejo both of Midland, TX, Crystal Smith of Bedford, TX and Rusty Smith of Shallowater, TX; great granddaughter, Jordan Smith of Bedford, TX; step-grandchildren, Toby and Cody Clement, both of Lamesa, TX, K.D. Cortez of Lamesa, TX, and Jonathon Copeland of Lubbock, TX; and great step-grandchildren, Cameron Clement, Josie Clement, Beau Clement and Luke Clement.

Clifford is preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Winnie Smith; a sister, Mary Lee McArthur; brothers, M.P. Smith and Jimmy Smith and a granddaughter, Stacy Copeland.
