Zelpha Elvid Bearden

February 2, 1918 - June 18, 2012

Zelpha Elvid Bearden, a long time resident of Dawson County, died peacefully on June 18, 2012, at the age of 94. She was born February 2, 1918, to Byron and Neudy George. The family moved to Dawson County in 1922.
She met and later married Roy Bearden on September 12, 1934. They were married 76 years and they were known for their "togetherness". He preceded her in death in 2011. The couple farmed in the community for many years. Upon retirement they traveled all around the 50 states and Canada. As a couple, they also worked diligently in World Bible School corresponding with students in Africa and other regions of the world. She continued to work until shortly before her death.
Zelpha was a charter member of the Medical Arts Hospital Auxiliary and was the remaining original "Pink Lady". She was also a chapter member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and helped to organize and charter the Dirt Dobbers, along with the Sunshine Garden Club. Always a lady and gracious hostess, she and Roy loved to entertain and have friends in their home. She was known for her excellent cooking and many have said, "No one could make a chocolate pie like Zelpha".
Her greatest joy was being a wife, homemaker and Mother to her husband and three loving children. Her joy was extended when grandchildren and great-grandchildren came in to her life. She is survived by her son, Layne and wife Ruth from Hutto, Texas and Dawn, who resides in Odessa. She had 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband and her oldest son, Gerald.
She was a faithful member of the Lamesa church of Christ. Her godly example to many will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Lamesa church of Christ with Mark Hackett officiating and Larry Roberts from Eastham assisting. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home of Lamesa. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to World Bible School, 16110 Anderson Mill Road, Cedar Park, TX, 78613.
