A celebration of life for T. R. "Dick" O'Brien, 93, of Spring, Texas will be held Monday, October 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Terrell O'Brien officiating. Graveside service will be held Monday, October 30, at 10:00 a.m. at Dawson County Cemetery under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. Dick passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 in Spring, Texas. He was born March 8, 1924 in Rotan, Texas to N. T. and Pearl (Hazelwood) O'Brien. In 1925, the family moved to western Dawson County in covered wagons. He attended school at Klondike. He married Sylva Faye Young in May, 1944, then entered the Army in December that same year. He served his country for two years, some of that time as an Honor Guard for General Douglas MacArthur. Upon his discharge, he returned to Dawson County and began farming. He was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and in his last years he was a member of First Baptist Church Fort Davis. He was also a board member of International Crusades, and traveled to many countries preaching the gospel. He is survived by his children, Terrell O'Brien and wife, Vickie of Fort Davis; Gayla Grummon and husband, George of Conroe; and Sharla Ward and husband, Scott of San Antonio; his grandchildren, L'Rona Kirkland O'Brien; Steven Foster and wife, Candice; Tammi Eason and husband, Justin; Angela Rosenkranz and husband, Jeff; Anthony Foster and wife, Lauren; Melissa Milner and husband, Josh; David O'Brien and wife, April; Chelsea McCarver; Kori Rosales and husband, Jonathan; Shelby Ward; and Nickolas Ward, 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Rinewalt and Wanda Beam of Lamesa. He is preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Mae Kennedy O'Brien, his wife, Sylva, his daughter, Debra, his sister, Norma Lee Brown, his brother, Travis O'Brien, and his grandson, Michael O'Brien.
